Hoppit Studios is a small, character-led studio run by Vicky Platt and Denise Wrightson.

Vicky draws. Denise writes, shapes, organises and worries usefully. Together, they make illustrated books, hand-drawn worlds and studio-born things that usually begin quietly, then start behaving as though they have ideas of their own.

The Studio is real. It is also a threshold.

This is where the work is made, where drawings gather, where stories are tested, and where certain characters appear when the page is ready for them.

Albert keeps watch.

Hop lives in the Studio, though he is not always where he was left.

The Hoppits appear when the work comes alive.

 

What we make

Hoppit Studios makes character-led illustrated books and related work for curious children, thoughtful adults and people who prefer their stories with a little dry movement in the margins.

Our work is hand-drawn, story-led and quietly odd. It is not loud, shiny or made by committee.

We like history, pictures, paper, strange details, useful questions and the sort of humour that does not need to wave both arms in the air.

The first book from Hoppit Studios is The Bayeux Tapestry (sort of), a book about history, stitching, colouring, making, and what may happen when a loose thread is followed slightly too far.

 

Who we are

Vicky Platt is the artist and illustrator behind the Hoppit Studios drawings. Her work gives the characters their shape, expression and peculiar sense of having just arrived from somewhere else.

Denise Wrightson works with the words, structure, planning and general studio weather. She helps shape the stories, the books and the slightly more practical parts of making a world visible.

Between them, Vicky and Denise make the work.
